Brian Eno Calls On Public Help to Send Palestinian Solidarity Song to UK Festive Top Spot.

A campaign is aiming to send a Palestinian lullaby to the Christmas number one spot. The project aims to send support to people in Gaza while also spotlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.

A Chance for Solidarity and an "Unlikely Coup"

Composer and producer Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a chance to stand with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.

“That would be amazing if that came to pass, yes,” he stated. “I won't be completely disheartened if it doesn’t, Christmas singles are a unique phenomenon.”

Powerful Theme of Dignity and Freedom

Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the reimagining of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's powerful central theme.

“It has a deeply meaningful spot for countless listeners,” Barghouti said. “The essence is that I would choose to perish with honor than live a life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we want to live a dignified life that we deserve as Palestinians.”

Track's Background and Contributing Musicians

The single was laid down in the wake of a major charity concert held in September. First conceived to be performed and recorded live, the rendition was omitted from the lengthy event due to time constraints.

The notable list of artists appearing on Lullaby features a range of well-known figures from the music world. All took part in the benefit event, which reportedly raised a significant sum for charitable causes.

Creation and Launch

Lullaby was produced by a trio of music creators. The song features a fusion of the original Arabic with contemporary English verses.

The organizers behind the project have emphasized that their goal is to collect the highest amount for a charitable pot. These resources will be allocated to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an non-profit partner.

“We haven't set a fixed goal,” a spokesperson explained. “We’ll go for as much as possible. Of course, the more the merrier. Every penny goes out to those in need in Gaza.”

The reality in the region was noted for its widespread damage, with a vast majority of buildings said to be levelled or seriously harmed.

“In that context, a couple of million is unlikely to make that much difference. But I think what truly matters is first of all raising awareness for this issue and proving the human dimension of the story.”

The track is scheduled for release on Friday. Additionally, a video of the benefit event will be made ready to watch on a digital service from the 19th of December.
