LA Experiences Unprecedented High Temperatures Just One Week Following Major Winter Storm.
Following a week of significant rainfall that led to inundation across areas in the city, Los Angeles is now seeing unusually hot conditions for late February.
All-Time High Temperatures
On Friday midday, the temperature climbed to 91°F (33°C) in the city center, according to meteorologists. This exceeds the previous daily record for this date, which was 88°F (31°C) and was established in 2025.
"Exceptionally warm weather" were highlighted on official graphics for the region.
Public Health Warnings
The weather service stated that Friday's conditions posed an "elevated risk for heat illness" for people sensitive to heat. Their advice included:
- Drinking plenty of fluids.
- Limiting outdoor activities during the afternoon hours of the day.
- Ensuring you do not leave children or pets unattended in a hot car.
A Dramatic Shift
This sudden spike in mercury comes on the heels of a massive storm system that struck the area earlier in the week. That storm unleashed heavy snow, strong winds, and thunderstorms to mountainous regions, causing evacuation orders for many residents.
Unfortunately, the storm also resulted in a deadly avalanche in the Tahoe area, which claimed the lives of.
Forecast Ahead
Looking ahead some relief is expected. The heat were forecast to drop to around sixty-one degrees Fahrenheit in downtown LA by late Friday.
Other locales that experienced the 90-degree mark featured Long Beach, Burbank, and Woodland Hills. Elsewhere, Santa Maria, Oxnard, Camarillo, and Westwood were expected to see the high 80s.
For the weekend, downtown Los Angeles can expect weather in the 80s, with cooler weather on tap for the following week.
