That Grisly Animated Movie Ending That Lingers Audiences
Among every mature animated films I have ever viewed, nothing has stuck with me quite like the dread-soaked ending of a explicitly bloody as well as deeply subversive film from 2022 The Unicorn Wars.
Back in 2015’s, the Spain-based writer-director crafted a dark, bleak , often savage universe that included a few small , desolate glimmers of optimism.
Although Unicorn Wars seems like it came from a drive to push the medium further, the filmmaker explained that it was actually an effort to convey a widespread, cross-cultural theme about “the mutual source of every conflict.”
That message is expressed through a band of brightly hued teddy bears , clearly inspired by a well-known series of lovable characters.
Growing up in a community focused on warmongering and the defense industry, many of the bears are consumed by killing unicorns, due to a holy book that claims them they were once masters of the forest, before the unicorns forced them out.
Others did not entirely fallen for the propaganda, , prefer to try out narcotics or engage sexually in the woods.
Unlike their gentle equivalents, these colorful critters display sexual organs , clear libidos.
For one notably brutal, cynical bear, the bear named Bluey, the conflict against the unicorns transforms into a road to power — and especially to dominance above his softer, nicer brother the bear Tubby.
Bluey acts as a tormentor and an apparent antisocial figure , and while fear dominates his squad and takes his teammates individually, he seizes progressively control on his own behalf, through ever more bloody, harmful methods.
At the same time, the horned creatures are experiencing their own horror, in the form of a growing, harmful creature in their habitat.
“At the beginning, it seems like a lighthearted film,” the filmmaker said. “However it evolves into a more dramatic and sad film. And ultimately, it’s a scary feature.”
The Unicorn Wars commences resembling among the whimsical features by a renowned animator, that discover a naughty glee in permitting cartoon characters swear, fire weapons, or sex each other up.
Subsequently it evolves into something more like a darker work from the same director, with increasingly explicit brutality and a noticeable link to the real suffering of conflict.
Ultimately, it is an outright extreme drama bloodbath.
The horror that turns the film a Halloween-friendly viewing starts much sooner than indicated.
Unicorn Wars is suited for the hardcore gorehounds, for enthusiasts of extreme cinema who wish to view something they’ve never watched previously, and who can handle a story that offers unflinching brutality.
Watch it in a dark room without any distractions, and the finale will crawl under your skin and stay with you.
