Israelis have come together across the country to remember the second anniversary since the Hamas-conducted attack on 7 October 2023, as negotiations continued in Egypt over a conclusion to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The attack saw more than 1,200 people dead and 251 others taken back to Gaza as hostages. It was the most most fatal day for the Jewish community since the Holocaust.

Israel responded by launching a defensive operation in Gaza which has claimed more than 67,000 people, as reported by the territory's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its statistics are considered accurate by the United Nations and other global organizations.

"Our violent adversaries have struck forcefully, but they have not defeated us," Benjamin Netanyahu added on that day.

He also vowed to "accomplish all the goals of the war: the return of all the kidnapped, the elimination of the Hamas government and the promise that Gaza will no longer pose a threat to Israel".

Commemorative Ceremonies Across Israel

The government authorities postponed formal memorials until 16 October - after the end of the religious holiday season - but gatherings still took place around the country on Tuesday.

A remembrance service for the loved ones of people who died in the Hamas assault was organized in the coastal city. Organized by the affected families, it was broadcast throughout Israeli TV networks.

Hours earlier, a moment of silence was held across the country.

Peace Discussions in Egypt

Meanwhile, the conflicting parties' negotiating teams met in the Egyptian tourist destination of the Egyptian city for a second day of mediated discussions to review the terms of the plan.

A prominent representative involved in the negotiations said that an night meeting of mediated discussions commenced at evening in Egypt.

The source said the day's discussions concluded without tangible results, due to conflicting views over the recommended Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over assurances Hamas seeks to guarantee Israel does not restart hostilities after the opening period of the deal.

He commented that the negotiations are "difficult and have not yet deliver any major advancement," but noted that mediators are working hard to close the gaps between the both parties.

Key Points in Talks

  • An enduring ceasefire
  • The swap of the captives still kept by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The pullout of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Measures for humanitarian aid distribution
  • Future administration of the area

Civilian Sentiment

In Tel Aviv's memorial area earlier, young Hagar - whose family member survived the assault on the Nova music festival, where 378 people were killed and numerous more were abducted by Hamas gunmen - shared: "No place appears as home any longer and until every captive return no one will feel safe."

"When we see all home again, we can relax once more. Then we can commence rebuild," she concluded.

Near Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's home in Jerusalem, people gathered to show their backing for the loved ones of the abducted. Israel states 48 stay in captivity in Gaza, twenty of whom are considered to be alive.

Protester Atalia Regev explained: "We must do any agreement required for the abducted to be released. But we really want assurances that we will be protected."

Opinion polls now regularly indicate that approximately 70% of Israeli citizens prefer the hostilities to end in as payment for the freedom of the hostages.

Palestinian Circumstances

At the area of the music event, grieving people gathered to honor the dead.

From there, the sound of Israeli air strikes and shelling could be heard just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where witnesses said the severe Israeli attacks carried on.

In the urban center, air and artillery strikes were documented in the dawn of Tuesday in the west side Tal al-Hawa, area and zone areas and in the east side area of Sheikh Radwan, as well the settlement to the north-west.

"When the evening arrives, the fear appears with it," relocated Gaza City resident a mother, whose 17-year-old son was killed by an Israeli bombing earlier, explained.

"My family are fearful of the attacks. Throughout the evening we are lying together, clinging, especially my little child who puts his head on me throughout the night."

"Constantly we monitor the reports to see the situation. And I'm worried that this truce will not be achieved and that the conflict will come back to us."

Humanitarian Situation

The healthcare center in the urban area announced it had accepted the bodies of six people by the midday, including three who lost their lives in an Israeli strike in the south part district.

A different healthcare center in the south region of that area reported another two dead people had been transported. An individual was killed by Israeli forces while attempting to get assistance to the southern area, medical staff reported.

The region's health ministry announced twenty-five of the {territ
