Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.

“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”

The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The pig, contributed by a local firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “6-7” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A Future Secured

The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.

“It captures the spirit of Miami: joyful, varied, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Annually, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”

Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they marked the pig's pardon.
