Toronto Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Meeting With the Dodgers
Springer previously helped the Astros securing the championship in 2017.
Canada's MLB team reached their maiden championship series since 1993 by beating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
Trailing three runs to one, Springer smashed a three-run blast in the seventh frame, guiding the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 triumph in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, holders of the defending champions, in the upcoming World Series.
"I'm thrilled for this squad, Toronto, our country," Springer stated, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "This is such an amazing experience."
Springer has now hit 23 total October home runs, placing him third on the list behind Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (27).
"It's hard to imagine another player anywhere that I'd choose in that moment besides George Springer with his post-season brilliance," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the sole team never to appear in a World Series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson commented "without a doubt that it's going to sting" in the wake of his team's loss at their home ballpark, but commended their efforts this season.
"They're an exceptional squad. It's a shame that we ended up on the losing end of this one," he continued.
Toronto secured the championship on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the first game on Friday.
